Topic 11.1.2: Security System Configuration
- The Security Editor main window is where the overall operation of the security system is configured and documented.
- System operation is defined with the following options.
- Security Enabled: The Security Enabled check box is used to enable or disable the entire security system.
- Disabling the system may be desirable during start-up or when maintenance is required on the process.
- Mode: Standard Security or OS Security is available. In Standard Security mode, the user is prompted for a logon and password established within InBatch.
- In OS Security mode, the user is prompted for a network UserID, password, and Domain.
- When OS Security is enabled, by default the Security Editor is only available to users with administrative privileges on the host PC.
- Retries: The Retries entry is associated with the number of requests a user is permitted to attempt in order to obtain a security clearance.
- If the number of retries is exceeded, an error message shall be displayed and access will be denied.
- For example, if the retries value is set to 2, the error message is displayed following the third invalid entry. The operator may immediately reattempt to obtain security clearance.
- Password Timeout: The Password Timeout specifies the number of days that a password is valid. Any passwords older than the set period will automatically become expired.
- The user will be required to change their password the next time security clearance is requested.
- Password Reuse: The Password Reuse specifies the number of days, which must pass before a password can be re-used.
- This feature prevents operators from repeatedly using the same password.
- Comment: This optional field can be used to document or comment on the security system configuration.
- Security Enabled: The Security Enabled check box is used to enable or disable the entire security system.
