Topic 1.3.3: Licensing for Workflow Management

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that the AVEVA License Manager and AVEVA License Server is installed on a machine, which is on the local network and can be accessed by all the AVEVA Workflow Management servers and clients.
  • In the AVEVA License Configurator, ensure that you provide the details of the machine where the License Manager and License Server are installed.

Types of Licenses

There are 3 Types  of licenses and their precedence,

  • Enterprise Edition

The Enterprise Edition provides Failover and Clustering support. All machines running the Workflow Management Engine Service in a cluster will require a valid Enterprise Edition license. When a workflow engine service is stopped or the server goes out of the network (following a shutdown or restart), all requests to that server are stopped. The other Workflow Engine services in the cluster will resume all pending tasks for the shutdown server.

  • Professional Edition

The Professional Edition is used to host applications in a live environment. There is no count limit for the Concurrent workflow execution for a Professional Edition license.

  • Developer Edition

The Developer Edition is a Rapid Application Development Framework and Software Development Kit (SDK) for workflow software aimed at software developers. The Developer Edition is a 100% Embeddable, web based workflow engine.

The Developer Edition is a version used for the development activities, such as creating custom action and embedding AVEVA Workflow Management controls inside custom applications. This edition can be used for any type of development that needs Visual Studio. To build a Web-based process designer using Enterprise Console, the Developer Edition is not essential.

The limitation of This product cannot be used in a Production environment.

  • Scenarios
  • If load balance is enabled during Farm configuration, then the Enterprise Edition license is acquired, based on its availability. The Advance Server Service is installed and is enabled.
  • If load balance is disabled during Farm configuration, then either the Professional Edition or Developer Edition license is acquired, based on the availability. The Advance Server Service is installed and is disabled
  • The Workflow Engine Service checks the license periodically i.e. at an interval of 24 hours.
  • You can log on to the Enterprise Console only if the Client service and the Workflow Engine Service are running.
