Topic 1.3.2: How does Licensing work?
This section describes the licensing workflow. This example assumes that both License Manager and License Server are installed on the same computer, and that the computer can connect to the Internet.
- Purchase one or more AVEVA Software products: Along with your installation media or downloads, you will receive one or more entitlement files containing licenses details.
- Start License Manager: It opens in a browser window and accesses the installed License Manager components.
- Select the License Server: Use the License Manager to select an available server to host the licenses you want to activate.
- Import the entitlement file: Import the entitlement file. After importing, the License Manager displays the available licenses.
The Entitlement File contains information for specific product licenses that is imported into the License Manager to activate purchased licenses.
- Activate licenses: License Manager contacts the AVEVA Activation Server over the Internet to activate the selected licenses on the License Server.
The Activation Server activated licenses on the License Server.
- Manage your licenses: Licenses are now available for the products you want to use. You can now:
- activate new licenses
- deactivate current licenses
- reserve and unreserve licenses
- Install the purchased products: You can go ahead and install the products following the individual product installation instructions. Also make sure you have at least one license server and one license manager installed as well
- Configure and Run your products: The installed products, when running, will acquire their licenses from the License Server and will release them when no longer needed
