Topic 6.1.1: Materials Editor Overview

  • Materials Editor
    • The Materials Editor provides a graphical interface to the Materials Database. All materials that are to be used during the creation of recipes must be defined in this database.
    • The Materials Database consists of Ingredients (raw materials), Intermediates (premixes, and products requiring additional processing, e.g., Work-In-Process (WIP)), By-Products, Finished Goods and Other materials (packaging items).
    • The Materials Editor is used to define a list of materials that will be used by the recipe. The Materials Database is used by the Recipe Manager in the construction of recipes. Only materials in the Materials Database can be used in recipes.
    • When new materials are received, the material information can be entered into the Materials Database by plant personnel.

Note: The Materials Editor is not an inventory management system, but should complement existing systems.
