Exercise 4 - Summarize, Assignments and Linking
-
Scenario:
You are the VP of IT of an electronics hardware company.
- You have been asked by the CEO to get a corporate website for your company.
- The key STAKEHOLDER of this web asset will be the Marketing Department. Additionally, the CEO will have a blog, HR will post jobs etc.
- After carefully considering your projects on hand AND your team's core skills, you decide to OUTSOURCE this project to a suitable vendor
- You intend to use a CMS (Content Management System) - so you are not dependent on the vendor for future content modifications
Some guidelines you have established:
- Plan your requirements as meticulously as possible upfront
- Select the best vendor based on capability, process maturity and suitable pricing
- Ensure a high quality outcome - by incorporating Quality checks through out the project
- Ensure non-functional requirements are considered

DESCRIPTION:
Exercise: 4 - CORPORATE WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
Complexity: BEGINNER Level
Task Items: <~50 / 2 months
File Type: IMPORTANT - Import from Excel File
Domain: Business
Project Management Phases: Initiation, Planning
Key Concepts Learned: Excel Import, Recurring Tasks, Task - Formatting, Summarize, Assign and Link
-------------------------------------------------
The WBS / Task list - notes- This is available in a separate Excel file "WBS for Exercise 4 - Corporate Website Development.xls".
- The best practice is that you should create this WBS in multiple iterations and involve the people who will do the actual work - or who have the expertise in the area.
- I have applied more iterations to the task list - to sort both by a chronological order - and ALSO "work by department"
- Finally, I have also included task duration - to demonstrate Microsoft Project's intelligence in copying this over to the project file.
